It's another one of those "Me" blog posts, but hey every girl needs those at times. Well because I have been sitting at the airport for 3 hours, and in fear of my bag getting stolen if I fall asleep, I figured I might as well write something.
5 things
1. Last night was senior night for a lot of the Utah county High schools. It was bittersweet. It was such a surreal feeling when they announced my fellow seniors and I as the "seniors". It kinda made me wonder where the time went, and think back on everything. I have some regrets from my past years of cheer, but I am determined to finish strong, like most of my cheer sisters (and brothers).
2. Jesse Crossett is my best friend. I have a lot of best friends, but he's like the twin brother I always needed. I'm so lucky to have a friend like him. Friends like that are the ones that are never disloyal, and they are always there for you. Those are the true friends in high school.
3. Go Mitt! And yes, I did adopt my political views from my parents at FIRST. Then I took all you "anti-Romney-ers" advice and did research.... Go Mitt! ;)
4. I decided I observe people way too much. Not in a judging way, just fascinated I guess. I mean when I'm at school it's cool to see all these different people come together in one place, and I just like to observe. I wonder what they've fought through in their lives, their struggles, and their triumphs. I'm just weird I guess. But I like to think *every person here has their own story* . This one is helping me stay awake while at the airport.
5. Smoking honestly breaks my heart. It's such an unhealthy and expensive habit, and I feel bad for people addicted. As I walked past the smoking room at the airport today I kinda glanced in. A man, who looked like he was in his 80s, looked up at me and then kind of looked down in shame or something. He looked right back up and I smiled at him and waved as I passed. He looked shocked. He probably had never gotten a very nice gesture while smoking in an airport before (or maybe he thought I was some crazy teenager- or his granddaughter that he forgot because he's old. Who knows why he really looked shocked) I feel bad for the people who have fallen under this terrible addiction. The problem is people make them feel like they are terrible people, when its really just a terrible habit. I'm not trying to justify smoking. But no one knows why someone got into smoking (unless they tell you). But for the most part we don't know. It's just sad. I hope people in high school really look at the habit seriously now that we know all the facts.

I Hate(Love) You ... Rivalries and Plans
High school RIVALS. A lot of schools actually hate their school rivals, but not MV and Orem. Even though we get super competitive and mean on game day, after that's all passed we are all friends again. I don't really know why we are like that, but I like it. That game was awesome! Even though Orem won, it was great. It was cool to see everyone wearing white, while orem all wore black. I really do love rival games, and I think everyone can agree that they are one of the best things about high school.
Rival games are so fun! You get to get all painted up and go CRAZY. Also, the pep rallies! This year my friend Nicole and I are in charge of the pep rallies. MV had a really good one! It was very successful! Jadon pace, Mr. Glahn, Mr. Fong, and Mr. Herriford all got pie to the face (and we forgot to get the towels to wipe their faces off-- oops!) Davy and Jadon both got cool hoodies!
That day was crazy. First I only went to first period. After that Nicole and I were setting up the rally alllll dayyyyyy longgggg. It was a lot of work, but I think that's the only way we kept from having a break down. Thank you for all those who helped us!
After the rally the typical high school thing happened. You see your ex with someone new, and you're just like... ah. Oh well. I think most people can relate to me when I say the feeling sucks. But I decided to write a little bit about it because I think I came up with a solution.
Be Nice To Them.
It's the weirdest thing! I decided to approach the situation and be as nice as I could. Suddenly every emotion I had built up on the whole thing was gone. I was a little sarcastic about talking to them earlier that week, but not this time. I would truly be friends with them.
So for all those who are dealing with it (jealousy) there is hope! It only takes a couple minutes of nicely talking to them (don't try and make it awkward... it doesn't work) and suddenly you're over it. It's healing and it stops any more high school drama from happening.
I think this is the first time I've really opened up in my blog, but that's because I don't like to make it about me. I don't like to sit here and whine about my problems or brag about any accomplishments. But I think this is different because maybe you can relate and maybe I can offer some advice.
Jealousy is a sick thing in high school. Not only when it comes to your exes, but also just normal other people. Sometimes I look at people and think *Why can't I just be as liked as her?* or *Why can't I be as skinny as her?*
It can RUIN high school. That was me last year. My junior year was spent constantly thinking about how I can get others to approve me. How I can have a good reputation. I decided to throw that out the window, and try to be there for others. Don't let jealousy get in the way of what really matters, and go out there and help!
Okay nuff' of that. Wow that was really random, I'm sorry.
A CHANGE OF PLANS:
CAUTION: A PART ON JUST ME AND MY LIFE
A big thing happened to Utah yesterday.A big change announced on LDS general conference. Missionaries can now leave younger. Boys can go when they are 18, and girls can go when they are 19. I don't feel bad for posting about this, because 95% of my readers are from Orem. So a lot of people know this.
My plan was always to go to Hawaii. I would leave right after graduation and start on my Marine Biology career. BYU Hawaii, and then eventually Hawaii Pacific University. Then this curve ball happened.
I'm now staying in Utah for a year, and then leaving on a full time LDS mission (hopefully) on my 19th birthday. (full time for girls is 18 months, and boy it is 24 months, in case you were wondering)
I feel like I want to talk about this because a lot of us have a plan. Or our plan is to figure out a plan later on. A lot of high school kids have plans, not just LDS kids. We have places we want to go and sights we want to see. Then life changes. People change. PLANS CHANGE.
Suddenly you're like, wait what do I do now?
It takes a lot of self discipline to make new plans even if you were set on something else. It takes a lot to keep a good attitude. Even if you chose this new path, it's hard to say goodbye to the old one.
But if you do it well, and you stay positive, it WILL WORK OUT.
I hope everyone comes up with plans and they all work out :)

A Death In Utah
Yes folks.
It has come.
It has come.
The
Death... of... Summer
There aren't a whole lot of things I get emotional about (okay well that's not really true) , but the warm times leaving is for sure one of them. I can't tell the difference between my tears pouring, or the raindrops body slamming my face outside.
Here's my poem I wrote about today.
It's time for jackets,
for hot chocolate and marshmallows,
when the rain starts its pouring,
my happiness it swallows.
While everyone is cuddling
I'll sit here with my pillow,
forever alone,
fall is the start of my woe.
-Nikki Schmidt
OBVIOUSLY not a masterpiece. I feel happy for those who are happy about fall, I mean really! What isn't to love? It really does have the coolest rain storms, cool leaf changes, loads of cuddling, movie days, dancing in the rain... etc.
But at least for Me, I don't know. I feel like the happiness leaves. I can see why people love it, I really can. But I just start feeling dark and gloomy. I would rather lay out and look at the stars on a warm summery night, than look out my window at grey skies all day.. but that's just Me.
But the main reason I'm writing this post isn't really to talk about my opinions all that much, but what the weather does to us high school kidos.
First let's talk about the hair!
Because I live in Utah I feel okay bringing up seminary. A lot of my school is enrolled in seminary, the problem? It is outside! It's not a long walk at all, it's literally across a little street. But in the coldness, it feels like 5 miles. So for those who have to go outside during a storm this is for you.
FOR BOYS
BEFORE THE RAIN:
AFTER THE RAIN:
you get the point.
FOR GIRLS
BEFORE THE RAIN:
AFTER THE RAIN:
It's really hard for girls to get ready during the rainy months because we don't find a point if it goes to waste. We all know the rain is just going to attack our hair and makeup no matter what we do.
And boys. You lucky son of a guns.
So for the most part, you can look forward to seeing all
THESE CLOTHES roaming the high school halls
Trendy sweats:
Attractive hoodies
Converse/Rain boots
But what would this blog be without solutions to our high school problems!?
So here is the big secret everyone...
Umbrellas have a convenient handle to hold while they shield you from the downpour! Not only are they convenient for the rain, they are also light and easy to travel with! AND YES, this product does work!
Good luck everyone!! Whether you like it or not, fall has come. So BRACE YOURSELVES.
and REMEMBER
The moral of this story is.
Do not get your car washed the same day there is a chance of a rain, or if there is a chance the next day because you can't use the free re-wash deal if it rains the next day.

The Most Annoying People On This Planet
There's few people who make my skin crawl, blood boil, and emotions rise.
For the people who generally are annoying in high school, I usually get over it pretty quick and actually get to know them better.
But I decided I was going to make a "Top 5" Most annoying people list. This may or may not have to do with high school, but I think all high school kids can relate.
#5 The People Who Never Stop Calling

For me those people would be the American Red Cross. I donated a lot last year, and this year I just haven't found the time to go back in. I kid you not, they call me at least 3 times a day EVERY DAY. I don't answer any of them for 3 months, and they won't stop! I would rather them come up to my door, start a small conversation and then just out of rage stick a needle into my arm and take the blood. It is so annoying for them to keep calling.
Maybe you have someone or an organization calling you every five minutes? Anyway. People just need to get the message.
#4 The Kiosk People

You're at the mall. You have a mission. If you are a girl, you will most likely take many detours and extra routes to get to that one store you really need to get to. If you're a boy, you go straight to the destination, and then abandon ship. As I like to call it, "You ditch the sitch".
But there is one thing that boys and girls to relate to. We don't have "visit kiosk" anywhere on our agenda. It's not part of the detours, the mission plan, the route, the destination, the journey, and blah blah blah. Why do the people insist we come!! They lure you in like, "You're skin looks healthy! What do you use?" "Do you play sports?" "Can I ask you a question? (didn't leave me much of a choice there did ya?)" and it NEVER ENDS. When you get bored of listening to them, you try and come up with any excuse to leave and they act desperate. It's so annoying!!
#3 Chatty Cathy

The people who NEVER STOP TALKING. I mean the people who won't let you get in a word in. The people who it is all about them, 24/7. Don't get me wrong, I think all of us can be a little self centered with our opinion sometimes, but I'm talking about the people who always are. They are the kind of people when you tell them something exciting, they have to think of something better and outdo whatever you said. *Come at me bro.*
#2 Slow Register Workers/Clothing Store Workers

You know those days? When your patience is tested? You wait in a huge line to buy something, and when you reach the front you are annoyed but you feel victory. AND THEN, the person at the register goes sooooo slow. Or let's say you're really hungry and you're at a place to eat that you stand in line and then buy your food. You can see your food sitting there with your stomach making whale dying noises. The person at the register messes up 10 times before you get to taste the goodness.
The second part is people at clothing stores. The people that follow you around in a store, constantly asking if you need help. Or just trying to talk to you... *Get Off ME*
#1 SLOW DRIVERS

There is nothing more annoying in this world than a slow driver. Especially when you're riding their butt, and they won't pull over or go faster. I had an experience this week, as I'm sure lots of you have had a similar one. I was late for school, and rushing to get there on time. If any of you have seen the MVHS parking lot, you'll understand it is full of mountain-like speed bumps. Most people go over them fairly quickly. Well I was caught behind this person all the way from the light to the school. The speed limit was 35 and they were going 20. Once we were in the parking lot, they were going SNAIL SPEED over the speed bumps. When I say snail speed, I mean it felt like I had missed half of first period by the time they got over the first one. I was honking and being obnoxious, which isn't usually my forte. I like keeping cool, and just dealing with it. This was the first time I've really been that mean to another driver but COME ON. We are obviously both late, could you manage to push the gas pedal just a little bit more?
All in all,
I hope I didn't offend anyone who might be part of one of these checklists. If I did, I'm sorry but it is the truth. I'm sure you're not the problem if you're truly offended.
Annoying people.. Got to go.
Sometimes we all just need our space, sometimes we just need you to stop.

She is so much better than me.
She is so much better better than me.
She is prettier, skinnier, smarter, happier, friendlier, more popular, funnier, more fun, and the list goes on.
She has it so easy. She has everything she needs, and all I have are too many expectations i'll never reach. She has everything I ever wanted. All I have is lost dreams, and lost friendships. She has reasons to hope, I only have reasons to give up.
She's the one who gets the glory, and I'm the one that cleans the celebration up. She has nothing to worry about, and I have everything to lose.
She's the one who everyone looks up to, and I'm the one everyone overlooks.
Isn't it so easy to do that? To sit there and compare ourselves to everyone else? It's so easy to look at someone and in your own head magnify your faults. The biggest problem with this is you stop appreciating life itself.
This is 1/2 comparing and 1/2 about 9/11 post.
We sit there and wish we weren't ourselves. Today I was watching kung fu panda. In the movie he talks about how he wished he could be anyone but himself, because he didn't like who "he was". The first half of the movie he has to watch how much better the other characters are at kung fu, which then makes him forget that he was chosen to be the dragon warrior. He becomes down on himself. By the end of the movie he realizes that the secret to being great, was just to be himself.
Life can always get worse, and life is always worth living.
I have a friend named Leda from Sea Camp.
In her life she...
>Lost her parents (one murdered, and one taken away)
>Lost her grandparents
>Two best friends (Killed in a car crash, with her in the car)
>Was in the hospital for months, with mostly every bone broken in her body.
>Her social life was gone for a while.
>Became sober, and stayed away from drugs.
She went through so much in her life. She went through multiple deaths. Now this is a girl who is inspirational. When she told me she became sober and dropped all bad habits and attitudes from her life, it really put into perspective how much I complain and how weak I can be sometimes. She ended up becoming the top student at her school, and is looking forward to college scholarships for academics and soccer.
Now that is a woman who sees life the way it should be. She's the strongest person i've ever met.
Now, to relate this to 9/11. How much do you think people who were affected by 9/11 appreciate life? They miss who they lost, or what they lost, but they probably appreciate life so much more than we all do. They see how precious life is, and how fast it can go away. And here we are, complaining about how our lives aren't good enough

I heard a quote last week and it really stuck with me.
"If you were with a bunch of people, and you all threw all your problems in the middle of the circle, you'd probably pick yours back up after."
We should respect the victims of 9/11 because those are probably the strongest people left on Earth. I hope everyone looked at the flags today, and thought for those people even for a second. As we say the pledge, and talk about our freedom, remember that we also have life! We still have a future to look forward to. Don't compare yourself to others, don't say "He/She is so much better than me." You don't know that!! You don't know the battle they are fighting, and they don't know yours. Be grateful that you have a battle that is specifically designed for you.
Ignore the mountain dew part, but the rest of the message I think works :)

How Will YOU Be Remembered?
Here's the problem. So many people try so hard to be out there to get everyone's acceptance, that they don't realize the people who are really there for them.
Here's my advice on how to be remembered once you leave the hallways of high school.
Don't stress so much about if you will be remembered or not. The more you worry about how people will remember you, the more down you feel on yourself. You think "If I don't make everyone think I was so nice after I left, I have failed." ERR wrong! It's more important that you set out to serve others, and be yourself, than it is to make everyone think a specific word about you! It's more important to help others with what they need, other than helping others to get what you want.
Don't tear down others, to make yourself look better.
How many of you have heard a person say something bad about someone else, and then try and say that they are better than that person. Heck, I know i've done it! We all have! You're not gonna be remembered the way you want if you're tearing someone else down. When people are saying bad things to me about others, I wonder what they say behind my back?
Get Involved.
Go do something! This doesn't necessarily mean go do something crazy, but be involved and engaged with getting to know others. You have to be you, but you have to be willing to be involved with helping other people. You have to be involved with becoming a friend.
All in all,
BE YOURSELF.
And you will be remembered.

The DRESS
BOYS!! HELP MAKE GIRLS NOT FEEL LIKE THIS! :
First I wanted to give a small side note- Thanks everyone for your birthday wishes! And also thanks for anyone who came to the game! The show up was huge, and we got to see our bruins win a big game. :)
This post is inspired by one of my friends waiting to get asked.
This is a blogpost about the process of..... (drum roll please)
HOMECOMING
Every girl goes through this. A lot are still going through this. The anxiety of waiting for someone to ask them. It's a hard time because all your friends are getting asked. So you pick the guy, have your friends do their best to get him to ask you, and then wait.
Now comes the real dilemma.
Do I buy a dress now before they are all gone just in case I get asked?
VS
Do I wait to buy a dress and risk not getting a good one?
And another problem! The hours spent to find one! (Like when I went with Heidi yesterday it was considered fast for us to take 3 hours...)
And another problem! The hours spent to find one! (Like when I went with Heidi yesterday it was considered fast for us to take 3 hours...)
Now ladies.
When life gives you dilemmas, make dilemmonade!
Don't buy a dress "just in case", but have a back up dress in case you don't find one. Use something you used in the past, or a friends, a siblings, anyones! Most people are more than happy to let you borrow one of their dresses :)
NOW TO TALK ABOUT THE
"UTAH PROBLEM"
In any other state, the boy approaches the girl (or calls her), asks her, and then the girl says yes or no. Who ever started all this production stuff in Utah is a... not so intelligent person. Why does the boy have to ask in this big way? And why do we have to answer in a big way? In all reality, a girl just really wants to go to the dance. Even if you choose not to do something big, she wants to get asked. Yesterday I helped answer Heidi's date, and ask Nate's date. I realized two things, it is really fun to go all out BUT it is a lot of work. I wish Utah was less like this. I wish the boy could just ask, plain and simple. So many boys would actually ask and want to go (Am I right?)
So boys- if your holdup is not wanting to ask some big creative way, you really should reconsider. I promise any girl just wants to get asked! Even just a phone call! :)
Now because Fieldstead told us to tell the girls,
WHEN A GUY ASKS YOU, HE IS NOT ASKING FOR MARRIAGE
If you make a guy feel like that, he won't ask you! Remember it's a high school dance :)
The two last things i'd like to say are,
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE HOMECOMING NOMINEES (and good luck in the lunch time activities you'll have to do!)
and
BOYS ASK THOSE GIRLS, and HAVE FUN :)
AND MY NEW FAVORITE SONG :) (Thanks Heidi, Nate, and Kyle!!)
